How to Speed Up PS5 Downloads

Get your games ready in record time

The PlayStation 5 offers an impressive leap forward for Sony’s home console family. With more power than any of its predecessors, players will have a smoother experience with this system than the PlayStation 4. While the console's technology is impressive, the games often take up a lot of space, and downloading them can take time. What can players do to speed up their downloads? There are several solutions available to them.

Solution One: The easiest way to ensure that the PS5 is getting the best download speed is by attaching an ethernet cord. A wired connection will always be more reliable than one that is wireless. If it is possible, hardwire your console to your router for optimal internet speeds. Manually switch your connection from wireless to wired in the Internet Settings as the change isn't automatic.

Solution Two: If a wired connection is out of the question, don’t fret. The PS5 can still handle high-speed downloads via wireless internet, provided the connection strength is acceptable. Try to keep the console in a position that gives it optimal internet speeds. Try to put the console as close to your router as possible. Move any unnecessary obstructions as well.

Solution Three: Whether you’re downloading games via wired or wireless connections, download speeds can be increased further by closing any open games or applications. Having games open often takes away from the console's ability to download games at a reasonable pace. When there’s a game ready for download, it’s best to stop playing until it’s done.

Solution Four: It’s important to note that trying to download multiple games or applications simultaneously will slow speeds as well—download one game or application at a time. Pause the downloads that aren’t as important by selecting them in the downloads menu.

Adhering to these some or all of these guidelines should improve download speeds significantly.
