All Oricorio weaknesses and Best Counters in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

It isn't as simple as you'd think!

Oricorio can be one of four different forms depending on the Nectar given to it in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. This makes finding its weakness pretty difficult as some dual Typing combinations will add or remove weaknesses from each other. Keeping track of which Oricorio by looking at their primary color is a simple way of finding their Types, but their official names are Baile, Pom-Pom, Pa'u, and Sensu. This will go over each Oricorio's weaknesses and their counters in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

What is Oricorio weak to in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Each Oricorio is part Flying Type but their primary Type changes based on which form they are taking. This makes it their weaknesses and resistances change because of how the Typing combinations work. There are four forms in total and they all share a common weakness in Rock Type attacks. Rock isn't something that every Pokémon will have as one of their moves but there are many other options for each Oricorio. These are their weaknesses:

  • Baile Style (Fire/Flying)
    • Rock - 4x
    • Water - 2x
    • Electric - 2x
  • Pom-Pom Style (Electric/Flying)
    • Rock - 2x
    • Ice - 2x
  • Pa'u Style (Psychic/Flying)
    • Rock - 2x
    • Ice - 2x
    • Electric - 2x
    • Ghost - 2x
    • Dark - 2x
  • Sensu Style (Ghost/Flying)
    • Rock - 2x
    • Ice - 2x
    • Electric - 2x
    • Ghost - 2x
    • Dark - 2x

Using Ice Type moves will work on every Oricorio apart from the Baile Style and Electric Type moves will work on every Oricorio but the Pom-Pom Style. Both move Types are fairly common, making it easy enough to be able to have at least one Pokémon on the team that can deal super effective damage.

What is Oricorio immune to in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Each Oricorio is immune to Ground Type moves because of their secondary Flying Type. The Sensu Style Oricorio has two additional immunities because of its Ghost Typing, making both Normal and Fighting attacks able to land. The Ability Scrappy is one of the only ways that Pokémon can hit Ghost Types with either of these Types of moves.

What is Oricorio strong against in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Oricorio isn't especially defensive but each of their Type combinations changes how much damage each move will deal to it. It'd be wise to avoid using moves that don't do much damage because each turn that Oricorio stays on the field is another turn they can use moves like Hurricane or Revelation Dance. Revelation Dance's move Type will change based on Oricorio's Primary Type, from Fire, Electric, Psychic, and Ghost for each Style. These are the resistances for each Oricorio Style:

  • Baile Style (Fire/Flying)
    • Fighting - 1/2
    • Steel - 1/2
    • Fairy - 1/2
    • Fire - 1/2
    • Grass - 1/4
    • Bug - 1/4
  • Pom-Pom Style (Electric/Flying)
    • Fighting - 1/2
    • Steel - 1/2
    • Flying - 1/2
    • Grass - 1/2
    • Bug - 1/2
  • Pa'u Style (Psychic/Flying)
    • Grass - 1/2
    • Psychic - 1/2
    • Fighting - 1/4
  • Sensu Style (Ghost/Flying)
    • Poison - 1/2
    • Grass - 1/2
    • Bug - 1/4

When battling Oricorio, it's recommended to avoid using Grass, Bug, and Fighting moves as every Oricorio will take reduced damage to these attacks. In Double Battles, Oricorio can use its Ability, Dancer, to use any Dance move used by its ally or opponent on the field in addition to its regular move that turn. This makes Quiver Dance using Pokémon very valuable as Oricorio can copy a Pokémon using Quiver Dance and still follow it up with a move of their own.

What are the best counters to Oricorio in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

Each Oricorio form has different strengths and weaknesses, but the best way to count all of them is to use a Pokémon with high Special Defense than can deal super effective damage with Rock moves. Tyranitar, Glimmora, and Garganacl are the three highest Special Defense Pokémon in Scarlet & Violet and can each deal with Oricorio without much trouble. Glimmora won't be able to take many hits from the Pa'u Style because of its Poison Typing, but it can still respond with a lot of damage to the rest.
