Project L's roster features some League of Legends characters, but all will not make the cut. So far, Riot Games has shown off a few legends including Ahri, Darius, Katarina, Jinx, Ekko, and Illaoi. The latest dev diary shows off some gameplay for Illaoi and sheds some light on development progress.

Project L Illaoi gameplay preview

During the gameplay preview, fans can see some of the many moves in Illaoi's arsenal. Illaoi can be seen smashing her opponent with her totem and utilizing her tentacles for more ranged attacks. The dev diary also gives a little taste of the process of taking Illaoi from concept art and design to a playable character.

Riot Games executive producer Tom Cannon states during Illaoi's gameplay preview, "what you're seeing here is about 30% complete. Right now the team is focused on fully realizing her combat fantasy as a big body brawler and narrowing in on the mechanics of her tentacle attack."

Project L tag system

The Project L dev diary also shows off the Tag System, which will allow players to tag in another legend and perform different combos and special moves. Players will be able to take two legends to the fight and use assist moves to turn the tide of the fight. Three separate tag moves are highlighted in the vlog: Assist Actions, Handshake Tags, and Dynamic Saves.

Assist Actions are the core assist moves, which allow you to call in your teammate to perform one of two assist actions. Each characters will have different Assist Actions, but all can be used to unleash devastating combos. The Handshake Tag allows you to switch characters, as long as the other is on-screen. The Dynamic Save assist is Project L's combo breaker. Dynamic Save can be used to break a combo and send your opponent flying.

All together, the dev diary shows off a great deal of gameplay. Not only do players get a look at the combat mechanics, but many of the character models and movesets are also previewed. Although still early in development, the gameplay preview for Project L seems very impressive. Check out the full Project L dev diary below.
