How to turn off crossplay on Xbox Battlefield 2042

Option unavailable? Try this.

Battlefield 2042 has crossplay, which promotes inclusive play amongst PC, Xbox, and PlayStation users. The crossplay feature is beneficial for filling up lobbies faster and allows friends on different platforms to play together. Even so, not everyone prefers having crossplay enabled.

Subsequently, the game provides an option to turn off crossplay so that you're matched with players from your platform only. However, the in-game crossplay setting is inaccessible for Xbox users as of now. Nonetheless, there is another way to turn it off.

Turning off Crossplay

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to turn off crossplay on Xbox for Battlefield 2042:

  • From your Xbox home screen, go to "Settings."
  • Within the "Account" section, select "Privacy & online safety."
  • Head over to "Xbox privacy" and choose the "View details and customize" tab.
  • Click on the "Communication & multiplayer" option.
  • Go to the second column, "You can join cross-network play," and change the setting from Allow to "Block."

Although this method works fine, the majority of players in your Battlefield 2042 lobby will be bots or AI. That's because most Xbox players don't know of this method and are playing with crossplay enabled. Keep in mind that this setting will disable crossplay for every game on your Xbox.

You can re-enable crossplay anytime using the same method. The reason behind why crossplay is grayed out for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One players is unknown. Hopefully DICE and Ripple Effect Studios will bring this feature to the Xbox consoles as well, seeing as PC and PlayStation already have it.
