New information about Gotham Knights is being released every day, and recently, creative director Patrick Redding and producer Fleur Marty met with IGN to discuss the game. One of the questions was about how structured the world is. Will this be an adventure that ties you down to zones, or is it like the Arkham games, where you can go anywhere?
Redding confirmed that Gotham Knights will be an open-world game right from the start. Players will have access to all of Gotham City and the game does not have level-gating. As soon as you have control of a character, you can go anywhere you want.
In Arkham Knight and Arkham City, players have the same freedom. Even though this is more of a spiritual successor, it's nice to see how much it borrows from that concept.
Players will find opponents who may be too hard to deal with one-on-one early in the game because of this freedom. If you come across a harder area early in the game, enemies will not automatically scale to your level. It's up to players to decide how they will handle these situations.
