Gamers upset over Redfall’s hidden requirement

Well this definitely bites.

Redfall is the highly anticipated co-op shooter by Arkane and Bethesda, featuring a new spin on vampires and Arkane's incredible level design. However, despite the abundance of trailers and information released on the title, one piece of information has been left out.

One eagle-eyed Redditor, Zhukov-74, discovered on Redfall's FAQ page that the title would require a constant internet connection—even for single-player content. The page states, "A persistent online connection is required for single player and co-op." This means players will need to be connected to the internet and must rely on the servers if they want to play Redfall in any way.

This has naturally upset gamers, as Redfall has been marketed as playable solo or in a group. Still, this information seemingly caters to the expectation that you have to play with others. Even solo players are at the whims of Redfall's servers and won't be able to play the game if there is an issue. This also means you could lose access to your purchased game if the servers are taken down for good.

The Reddit post blew up just an hour after Zhukov-74 posted this information, with many comments stating they do not intend to purchase Redfall or simply play it through Game Pass. Arkane and Bethesda's failure to mention this almost seems intended, but some hope this is a mistake or that Arkane will revoke the always-online requirement. Either way, it is certainly draining gamers' hype for Redfall.
