Battlefield 2042 Guns Tier List

All BF2042 guns ranked!

Battlefield 2042 is no longer a live-service game as the developers officially announced Season 7 to be the conclusive update. Although you may see some maintenance and game mode rotation updates, don't expect any major content drop. With no expected weapon rebalancing, it's safe to say this is the final Battlefield 2042 guns tier list.

Battlefield 2042 Weapons Tier List

I've divided the weapons into five different tiers—S, A, B, C, and D—from best to worst. Each tier features guns from different categories that I think belong in that class based on the following description.

  • S-tier: God-tier, meta weapons that can beat all other weapons when used within their proposed limit (i.e. SMG for close-range).
  • A-tier: Excellent choices that can compete with god-tier weapons in the hands of the right player.
  • B-tier: Guns with solid performance that are fun to use but outshined by their top-tier counterparts.
  • C-tier: These weapons aren't competitive enough to be recommended.
  • D-tier: The worst of the bunch that are outright useless and you'll be better off staying away from these.

S-tier Weapons

SMGPP-29, AC9, K30
AssaultVHX-D3, AK 5C, SFAR-M GL
LMGLCMG
MarksmanBSV-M
SniperSWS-10
TacticalMCS-880, RORSCH MK-4

Even with no attachments equipped, you can dominate your opponents effortlessly because these weapons have a fast TTK (time-to-kill) and an easy-to-control recoil plot, making them the best of the best. If you were expecting one of your favorite weapons and can't find it, you will most likely find it in the A-tier list. Pick any weapon from the above table and you'll be all set to start dominating lobbies.

  • SMG: PP-29 has the best damage profile while the AC9 and K30 are known for their high fire rate. Go with the PP-29 if you have good aim, otherwise, grab either of the other two SMGs as they're more forgiving if you miss a few shots.
  • Assault: Even after getting nerfed multiple times, the VHX-D3 is still one of the best ARs you can use. The SFAR-M GL is my choice for a stable, long-range Assault Rifle but pick the AK 5C if you want a fast fire rate and minimal recoil gun.
  • LMG: LCMG should be your go-to choice for a hard-hitting LMG with excellent accuracy and a decent rate of fire.
  • Marksman: The BSV-M is unbeatable when it comes to DMRs in the game thanks to its best-in-class range and damage stats. Furthermore, you can even convert it into a powerful SMG.
  • Sniper: SWS-10 tops the sniper rifles in BF2042 as it has the perfect balance of fire rate, bullet velocity, reload speed, and ADS speed.
  • Tactical: MCS-880 is a pump-action shotgun and can one-shot opponents at close range. RORSCH MK-4 is perfect for sniping because of its terrific fire rate and bullet velocity, which makes it a hit-scan even at greater ranges.

A-tier Weapons

SMGPBX-45, MP9, SCZ-3
AssaultAM40, AC-42, RM-68, M5A3
LMGAvancys, DFR Strife
MarksmanSVK
SniperNTW-50, DXR-1
TacticalGhostmaker R10, 12M Auto

Most Assault Rifles and Submachine Guns (SMGs) fall under these two tiers as these are versatile weapon classes in Battlefield 2042. These guns are fully automatic, fun to use, and easy to master for most players. Additionally, I've included some great Shotguns (Tactical), DMRs (Marksman), and Sniper Rifles that are almost on par with the S-tier ones.

  • SMG: The PBX-45 has always been a solid weapon in Battlefield 2042 as it's easy to use and has a competitive TTK along with the SCZ-3. The MP9 lacks behind in the TTK department, but is strong overall.
  • Assault: AM40 has a fast TTK and fire rate but some horizontal kick to it. M5A3 performed well early on but the competition is better. Get the AC-42 if you want a fast-killing, burst-fire AR. RM-68 was once a beast but it has been nerfed slightly. It still is a great choice if you ask me.
  • LMG: The fast fire rate and top-of-class mobility make the Avancys a solid choice. The same goes for the DFR Strife which has a better bullet velocity, but make sure to use high-power rounds on it for best results.
  • Marksman: You can't go wrong with the SVK as it has good range, fire rate, and damage stats.
  • Sniper: The NTW-50 is slow in terms of muzzle velocity, ADS speed, and fire rate but it's a one-shot kill up to 100 meters even if you hit the limbs. DXR-1 has the fastest bullet velocity in the game and is best for long-range sniping, but its slow rechambering speed holds it back.
  • Tactical: 12M Auto becomes a fantastic Shotgun for close-quarters if you equip the drum magazine and buckshot ammo on it.

B-tier Weapons

SMGAKS-74U, PP2000, P90
AssaultACW-R, GEW-46, AK-24
LMGPKP-BP, RPT-31
MarksmanVCAR, DM7
SniperXCE Bar, GOL Sniper Magnum
TacticalNVK-S22

B-tier weapons are okay and I really enjoy going back to them from time to time. These guns can take out opponents with ease, it's just that there are better options available in the previous two tiers. In Battlefield 2042, it's a general rule of thumb that the new guns are superior compared to the ones transferred from older games (i.e. vault weapons).

  • SMG: The AKS-74U, PP2000, and P90 Submachine Guns had to be put in the B-tier as BF 2042 weapons are better in terms of TTK, accuracy, and mobility.
  • Assault: ACW-R is one of the very few competitive vault weapons that I enjoy using. The AK-24 and GEW-46 are from the base game but are overpowered by S and A-tier weapons.
  • LMG: No doubt the PKP-BP packs a punch, but it's not accurate and has a bad recoil spread. RPT-31 is very powerful but is held back by its slow fire rate and horizontal recoil.
  • Marksman: VCAR is something I recommend to players who want to use a DMR for close-mid ranges. I like the DM7 but is often frowned upon by players as there are other superior choices.
  • Sniper: You should use the XCE Bar if you want a fast rechambering speed for quick follow-up shots and the GOL Sniper Magnum for a well-balanced weapon, however, the latter has a very slow reload speed.
  • Tactical: NVK-S22 is a pump-action shotgun that's less consistent than the MCS-880, so it's difficult to recommend.

C-tier Weapons

SMG-
AssaultM416, M16A3, MTAR-21, A-91, AEK-971
LMGM60E4, M240B, XM8 LMG
MarksmanG428, M39 EMR
Sniper-
Tactical-

The Assault Rifles & LMGs featured here are from the previous games' weapon vaults and simply can't compete against their BF 2042 counterparts. This is due to poor TTK, average control, and tremendous visual recoil shake. Don't expect these guns to rival the top-tier loadouts, but it is fine to try out the classic Battlefield weapons now and then when you get bored using the meta. Of all the guns listed in this tier, the M16A3 has to be my favorite not because of its performance but how it feels.

D-tier Weapons

SMG-
Assault-
LMGRPK-74M, TYPE 88 LMG
MarksmanSVD
Sniper-
TacticalGVT 45-70

In the D-tier, I've included weapons the community has deemed useless (myself included). It's simply because these aren't fun to use in my opinion as you'll have a hard time getting kills and landing shots (especially the GVT 45-70 Tactical and SVD DMR). The RPK-74M and TYPE 88 LMGs still can be used but like I said, you have much better alternatives to choose from.
