10 Best PC Games of 2023

Below is a list of the top 10 best PC games that were the greatest hits of 2023 (in my opinion, of course). And while some of them are also available to be played across console platforms, I do think they are still best enjoyed on PC.

10. Starfield

Image via Bethesda Softworks

Starfield is a true adventurer's delight as Bethesda's hit takes us into outer space. It puts a spin on the experience, as the previous titles have all been earth-based. This new title reminds me of old literal works of science fiction as it allowed me to explore expansive new worlds, fight space battles, and set up new colonies on uncharted planets. Best of all, it's available on Gamepass!

9. Remnant II

Image via Gunfire Games

The only thing better than a souls-like game is a souls-like game with guns. Remnant II is a sequel to the already-established bestselling survival horror. This unique title takes its genre to a new level as the survivors of the dimension-traversing plague fight for their survival using makeshift firearms to ward off hordes of unique monsters. Its aesthetics are something every soulslike player will fall in love with, as I did, and its gunplay will make you feel on your toes, anxiously anticipating the next enemy attack.

8. Cyberpunk 2.0 & Phantom Liberty

Cyberpunk 2077 had a rocky start, with its release and first three years shrouded in controversy and bad r views. Nevertheless, I always believed in the game's nearly unlimited potential to grow, and this year, I am pleased to say that it has finally completed its redemption arc. With the 2.0 patch, Cyberpunk 2.0 is now what it was always meant to be: a gorgeous-looking first-person shooter in the open world, which some say rivals even the GTA series.

To make things even spicier, CDPR has granted us an expansion to an already incredible story, Phantom Liberty, which introduces a spy-novel espionage storyline and a whole new section of the Night City for players to explore. While by no means perfect, I certainly can't deny what a long way CD Projekt Red has come to deliver to their fans what was promised and set things right.

7. Mortal Kombat 1

I have been a fan of the Mortal Kombat series from a young age and have known and played the franchise since its beginnings on arcade machines. After making significant complications within the game's timeline, Netherrealm Studios gave the series a much-needed clean start and a reboot by taking Mortal Kombat back to its roots, taking us all the way back with this re-imagined origin.

Mortal Kombat 1 features refreshed and updated graphics, which take away some of the grimmer elements that have graced the previous parts, adding vibrant colors and sheen, which is not something MK games were previously known for. Aside from the visual polish, we also received the all-new tag-team feature called Kameo moves, which combines your attacks with your AI companion, creating new and powerful combos and taking the Mortal Kombat gameplay to a whole new level.

6. Resident Evil 4 Remake

Capcom has released several fantastic hits this year, but nothing strikes a chord with me like good old survival horror, and Resident Evil 4 Remake is just what I needed. Moving on from the very nicely done but disappointingly short Resident Evil 3 Remake, I can say that Capcom has really listened to its fans and gave them what they wanted with an incredible 20 hours of gameplay.

I can safely say that this title is one of the best values for the money as it offers even more gameplay time even if you unlock all achievements in the game, with its Mercenaries mode and the Separate Ways DLC, which gives you the chance to play the famous Umbrella corporate spy Ada Wong in her side adventure.

5. Hogwarts Legacy

What could be better than a gorgeous-looking adventure designed to plunge your own uniquely created character into the world of Harry Potter and enable you to roam and explore freely, taking advantage of all the magical powers of the universe? Hogwarts Legacy offers an experience that all Harry Potter fans have always dreamed of but never dared to ask for, and it does so in elegance and style.

4. Armored Core 6

Armored Core 6 had an exciting release, as many players claimed it to be a soulslike mecha game. It proved challenging, with some of my most difficult boss fights this year. The stunning graphics, fluid gameplay, and expansive mech customization options make this title potentially the best masterpiece FromSoftware has ever released.

The delicate balance of difficulty made bosses tough but always beatable challenge. This scaling allowed me to replay this game multiple times, challenging myself with harder difficulties on each playthrough without the feeling I was cheated. You can read our Armored Core 6 review here! It truly deserves the title "Best Action Game of 2023."

3. Diablo 4

Image via Blizzard Entertainment

It's not every year that we get a proper Diablo sequel, but in 2023, we were in luck; Blizzard Entertainment unleashed hell upon the Sanctuary with a title worthy of being Diablo's successor. If you're a true fan of the franchise, Diablo 4 will treat you well with an exciting new villain you will love to hate as you spend countless hours building paragon levels on your favorite heroes and slaughtering countless demons.

2. Alan Wake 2

Image via Remedy Entertainment

Alan Wake 2 is a much-anticipated sequel of a tremendous novella-like horror adventure that continues the story of our troubled writer in a much darker and grittier fashion. The game has surpassed my already high expectations with its stunning visuals and scary ambient effects, which had me on edge for most of the time.

If you were a fan of the first part's soundtracks, you wouldn't be disappointed as the Poets of the Fall are featured in the sequel, bringing with them some absolute bangers that will surely be on your playlist for years to come.

1. Baldur's Gate 3

Image via Larian Studios

Baldur's Gate 3 is a CRPG the likes of which we haven't seen lately. It even triumphantly claimed the Game of the Year award at the Game Awards show, much to my joy and surprise. The game soared in popularity after its final release thanks to its ability to give players the amount of liberty no other game currently can. Combined with an aptly implemented 5th edition D&D ruleset, gorgeous graphics, and a vast world to explore, this title amalgamates all the virtues one video game should have.
