Genshin Impact Developer subpoenas Twitter for leaker names

The leaker hunt continues.

Genshin Impact's pursuit against leakers takes on a new development, as Axios reported that they've issued another DMCA subpoena—this time requesting Twitter to hand over personal information related to three leakers. The users-in-question include @merlin_impact, @GenshlnWorld, and @Xwides, all of whom have amassed a following for sharing information obtained from the beta test servers, as well as illegally-obtained test builds of the game.

This marks developer HoYoverse's third wave of DMCA subpoenas over the past three months, the first of which targeted prominent leaker Ubatcha for their leaks posted on Discord. The second wave targeted two major Discord servers that propagated leaks, although it's unclear whether the platform ever responded to the subpoenas. These were all filed by Cognosphere, HoYoverse's global publisher, via the California District Court, hence their capacity to target international channels.

Since information on the subpoenas spread, there has been a considerable decrease in the number of leaks that circulate the web. Information that normally arrives weeks in advance has been sparse, inaccurate, or completely missing, and even the popular subreddit r/Genshin_Impact_Leaks has been quiet amid the start of the Version 3.6 beta.

Reporter Stephen Totilo confirmed that Twitter has yet to comment on the situation, but fast-thinking leakers have begun deleting their accounts or making their content private. The horizon seems bleak for leaks, but persistent individuals will always find a way—especially in countries with lax copyright laws. For now, eager players must wait a little longer to know what's coming in Genshin Impact, in the next update and beyond.
