Halls of Torment is a roguelite isometric-view fusion akin to the genre-defining Vampire Survivors and the famous ARPG Diablo made to captivate old-school fans like me. Bringing the Vampire-like gameplay into the retro realm has really paid off, as the game took the indie market by storm, bringing various classic character classes into the fold.
Each hero has unique base attacks, attributes, and traits that make the experience of playing them distinct from each other. In this guide, we have compiled the list ranking them into tiers to measure their effectiveness in the game.

All Halls of Torment characters, ranked
We have compiled a tier list for all characters in Halls of Torment, ranking them from the S Tier to the bottom of the barrel D Tier. We will update the list if the meta shifts or the roster of all characters get updated with new additions.
S Tier
Cleric
The Cleric is a bit of an odd character, with slow but very powerful attacks that can deal incredible damage. However, the problem comes with how that damage is distributed. The attacks work similarly to the Swordman's cone attack, with one basic difference - it doesn't split, and the more enemies you hit in a single swipe, the better. Clerics have their damage split among enemies hit, causing them to deal progressively smaller damage per enemy the more they hit.
Warlock
Warlocks rely on summoning minions to fight for them. They can summon Lightning strikes which hit random places on the screen, and golems, which have a relatively wide range of attacks. What earns Warlock an S tier spot is its overall damage output, which is the highest in the game, provided you have the proper equipment unlocked.

A Tier
Archer
Archer is the first ranged character that you will unlock in the game. I remember playing Rogue in the original Diablo game, and experiencing Archer for the first time took me down to a memory lane. Her double-shot bow doesn't have the clearing potential of the Swordsman, but you can put more distance between you and the enemies, making her a safer character to play. She is also the highest-critting character, so keep that in mind when doing a build for her.
Swordsman
Swordsman is the first character unlocked from the start of the game and the most balanced overall. He is pretty survivable with an excellent clearing potential and capacity to evolve further. His sword is one of the best weapons in the game, and the largest base health makes him quite versatile.
B Tier
Shieldmaiden
Shieldmaiden gets the B Tier place mainly due to her tankiness. Regeneration is one of the crucial components in Halls of Torment, and her high Defense index and Max Health greatly contribute to her survivability. Her War Hammer and Shield are also great primary and secondary means of attack, with the hammer being able to apply stun for 0.2s on enemies. Where she fails to deliver is her subpar damage output.

C Tier
Sorceress
The Sorceress wields powerful lightning bolts, which can do very good damage, albeit to a single target. Unfortunately, that's the only thing going for her because she works as more of a glass canon. In our opinion, her attacks lack the broader area of attack like other characters. This makes her excellent for defeating bosses but a lackluster crowd controller. She has the lowest health pool of all characters, so upgrading her base health may be beneficial, and movement speed to compensate.
D Tier
Exterminator
Exterminator is a flamethrower-wielding character that uses ranged flame attacks to burn enemies. Their attacks are the fastest in the game, spread out into a small cone, with a 10% base chance to inflict Burn status to enemies hit by it. Their main downside is their low base HP and damage when compared to other characters.
