Servers can only handle so much traffic, which is why MMO's will spread their players out across multiple servers. However, there are only so many servers to go around and at peak playtimes, you could be waiting in line for hours. Therefore, Smilegate added a function called the AFK timer, in which players get kicked from the server if they are sitting still for too long. Here is how you can change the AFK timer in Lost Ark.
How to adjust the AFK timer
The AFK timer is a great feature for the players who have been waiting patiently in the queue to be able to log in. However, it can be quite annoying for players already on the server. If they step away from their keyboard for just 15 minutes they will be kicked from the server and have to enter the queue themselves to get back in. Luckily, Smilegate has given players a little wiggle room on this timer.
Here are the steps to follow in order to adjust your AFK timer:
- Press ESC to open the Game Menu.
- Click on gear icon labeled Settings.
- Switch over to the Gameplay tab.
- Select Controls and Display.
- Locate AFK Settings.
- From the dropdown box, select your preferred time for your AFK timer.
By default the AFK timer will be set for 15 minutes, meaning that only a quarter of an hour of inactivity will cost you your spot on the server. The timer can be changed to either 30 minutes or 60 minutes. However, we think 60 minutes is a bit excessive and find that 30 minutes is plenty of leeway time if you happen to get pulled away from your computer for whatever reason.
So there you have it, that is how you can change the AFK timer in Lost Ark. While players may want to just change their AFK timer to the max setting of 60 minutes, we encourage players to leave it at 15 minutes. This will lead to all-around shorter queue times, as well as more players being able to play the game.
