Reviews are in, and The Callisto Protocol is a ‘stuttering mess’ on PC

Some things never change.

The Callisto Protocol has landed, and things aren't looking good for the flagship IP from Striking Distance Studios. Reviews are flooding in, and depending on the platform, players opt to play the middling survival horror title. The performance is scarier than the game itself.

The Steam reviews section is particularly brutal, as many players say The Callisto Protocol is nigh unplayable. This is mainly due to massive performance issues with stuttering, HDR not working, and a slew of other problems like dropped frames. At the time of this article, there are 5550 reviews, with 3725 being negative—that's a staggering 67%.

Striking Distance Studios has acknowledged the issues and stated that a patch will be available later today to enhance performance. Time will tell if it goes according to plan and stems the tide of negative reviews pouring in.

Performance issues aside, The Callisto Protocol is getting mixed reviews across the board, regardless of platform. Our own review cites issues with the story, gameplay, and overall lack of originality being some of the biggest offenders. The one thing that did work well was the performance on PlayStation 5. Many feel that their hard-earned cash would be better spent on the Dead Space Remake, due in early 2023. Buyer beware.
