There are two basic ways of opening up Trade Routes in Victoria 3. The first involves opening up the Market tab, found on the right, and selecting Trade Routes. Here is where players can see which goods they may want to trade. Players will want to trade away any extra goods and buy what their population is looking to purchase.

The other way to open up a Trade Route is to use the Trade Lens. Players can pull this menu up with the green button at the bottom of the screen. This will display all of the possible commodities that the players can use to trade with.

At the beginning of the game, Victoria 3 players will only be able to build Construction Sites and Ports. Players will want to build Ports if they want to increase trade specifically, but Construction Sites are good at increasing the production of certain goods.

Before setting up a Trade Route, players need to check who they are trading with. If a particular nation hates them, they might place an embargo, making it much more economically difficult to build a profit. Players should consider who they want their allies to be and maintain good trade with them.
