Dirt and dust have a way of getting on everything. Keeping your laptop and its keyboard clean is a good way to extend its life and just keep it looking good. To clean your laptop keyboard, you will need to use some caution.
Whether your keys are low profile or stick out, the methods are relatively the same. The most important to do is to make sure your laptop is both unplugged and powered off just in case.

The first is easy, simply shake the laptop upside down to detach any loose objects and dirt, but make sure you have a good grip of course. Do this over a trashcan or a towel for easy clean-up. After that, you will want to take some compressed air and blow out any lodged debris in the keys, the hinges, and the trackpad. Use a diagonal angle when applying the air and make sure to rotate the laptop so you can get every side of the keys. Try and move in a zigzag pattern to ensure you get all areas.
If you are having trouble getting debris off of your keyboard, you may need to temporarily and carefully remove the keys. Ensure that your laptop's keys can be removed first so you don't accidentally damage it. You can also try using tape if the keys cannot be removed. Following that you want to wipe down the surface to remove any smudges and oil. Use disinfectant wipes or rubbing alcohol with a soft microfiber rag to safely remove any stains. Lastly, you could always use a vacuum to remove stubborn debris.
Following these steps will ensure you have a clean and disinfected keyboard. Whatever you do, do not pour or spray water directly on the keyboard, and definitely do not submerge it in water no matter how gross your keyboard is.
