To make Steel Ingots in New World, you will first need to level your smelting skill to level 50 and be at settlement in the game that has a tier-three smelter.
Once both requirements are met, you make steel ingots at the cost of three iron ingots and two charcoal in New World, and you will also need one sand flux per steel ingot.
You can get iron ingots by melting and mining iron ore from various areas, such as the area north of First Light. For more iron ore locations, check out the best iron locations in New World. When you get the iron ore, take it back to a smelter and make it into iron ingots.

To make charcoal, all you need is some spare wood you get from chopping any type of tree in the game down. After you get wood, take it to a smelter, and you will be able to turn it into charcoal. For the last material, sand flux, you will need to gather it from supply containers. You can find these containers in various locations, such as landmarks that are all over the game world.
That being said, gather all of the materials using the steps above, and you will be able to make steel in no time at all. Also, if you still need to level your smelting up, we recommend spending some time just farming wood and turning it into charcoal as a fast means of leveling the skill up.
How to use Steel Ingots in New World?
Once you craft Steel ingots, you will be able to use them as a material in several crafting recipes in the game for weapons, tools, and armor. Making steel tools will also be highly recommended as the first thing to use steel for in New World. The reason why is that steel is much faster than Iron tools at harvest resources and has a higher chance of having power perks etc. - same also applies to other steel items.
