How to make a Black Metal Pickaxe in Valheim – Tool Crafting Guide

A mighty tool for getting minerals.

The best Pickaxe in Valheim is the Black Metal Pickaxe that the Mistlands update added. Black Metal Pickaxes are potent tools that can quickly smash all types of metal ore. These Pickaxes are also made from an end-game material called Black Metal, making getting a Black Metal Pickaxe a little challenging. Luckily, it's not too tricky to figure out the process of getting a Black Metal Pickaxe in Valheim Mistlands.

How to craft Black Metal Pickaxes in Valheim

To craft a Black Metal Pickaxe in Valheim, you need three Yggdrasil Wood and 25 Black Metal. You will also need to have a level two Forge before you can craft a Black Metal Pickaxe. That said, both resources required for a Black Metal Pickaxe are tricky to gather, as you need to go to high-level areas for both resources. Here is how to get both Ygdrasil Wood and Black Metal to make a Black Metal Pickaxe in Valheim.

  • How to get Yggdrasil Wood - You can get the Yggdrasil Wood you need by locating a Mistlands Biome and chopping down trees called Yggdrasil Shoots. Yggdrasil Shoots grow high up on mountains and large rocks/hills. The shoots also seem to grow near glowing Ancient roots in the Mistlands Biome.
  • How to get Black Metal - You can get Black Metal in Valheim by slaying Fulings that roam the Plains biome. Slaying Fulings will get you Black Metal Scrap that you can melt down in a Blast Furnace to make Black Metal.
