Does Apex Legends have Skill Based Matchmaking enabled?

Does your favorite game have SBMM?

Yes, Apex Legends features skill-based matchmaking in its game modes. The game has two separate playlists—Ranked and Public—both of which have SBMM. Furthermore, the Ranked game modes—Ranked Battle Royale and Ranked Arenas—are specifically designed where players with similar skill levels can compete.

Ranked Leagues in Battle Royale is a competitive game mode where players get points for kills, assists, and placement. There are two Ranked splits every Season in which players try to rank up and play in higher tiers. You can level up by earning Ranked Points (RP).

Ranked Arenas was first introduced in Season 10. It works in a similar fashion to Ranked Battle Royale, however, there are some major differences. For instance, Arena Points (AP) aren't awarded for kills or assists. In this mode, AP is earned by winning matches.

As for the Public matches, SBMM is still applicable despite it being a casual experience. Respawn included SBMM in Public matches to keep the game balanced for new and lower skilled players. But, this version of SBMM is far less strict than the one used in Ranked Leagues.

Apex Legends rank tiers in BR & Arenas are—Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, and Predator. You will need a certain RP/AP to get to a specific tier. In order to reach the Predator rank, players grind the game to sit amongst the best Apex Legends players across the globe.

The Predator rankings for both game modes are:

  • Battle Royale: Top 750 players per platform, based on RP.
  • Arenas: Top 500 players per platform, based on AP.
