Best spells to learn early in Forspoken

For a good start.

In Forspoken, your character interlopes into an entirely new world of Athia. The only weapon you have to defend yourself is your magic, which is granted to you by the cuff you're wearing. Like every other role-playing game, Forspoken also has a progression system and a skill tree that allows you to unlock new magic spells. Here's a guide on which spells you should be getting first.

Magic spells can be learned by spending Mana, an in-game currency that can be acquired by simply touching the glowing, white pools of energy scattered across the continent. Initially, you start off with Frey's Magic, but you'll receive Sila's Magic spells soon after. Below are some of our recommended spells for both of the magic trees that you can unlock first. Furthermore, if you've already spent Mana on a spell that you don't like, you can receive the currency back by deleting the unwanted spell.

  • Fount of Blessing Magic Spells (can be earned for free by visiting a fount)
    • Shimmy: While sprinting using Magic Parkour, you can jump and then press jump again on landing for an acceleration boost. Remember, the timing of the second jump is key here.
    • Leap: Allows you to climb taller walls and cliffs.
  • Regular Spells (can be earned by spending Mana)
    • Scatter Shot Lv. 2 (112 Mana): The fire rate of rock shots is higher, turning it into a small-magazine Assault Rifle. Furthermore, the shockwave after releasing the trigger hits even harder and further.
    • Burst Shot Lv. 2 (38 Mana): The lumps fired deal more damage and have a wider range. This is a cheaper alternative to Scatter Shot Attack Magic upgrade if you don't have enough Mana.
    • Tendril (64 Mana): A whip is sent out around you dealing damage to anyone in proximity. You also get a health boost depending on the damage dealt by the whip. It is a great Support Magic if you're surrounded by multiple hostiles.
    • Genesis Lv. 2 (76 Mana): It gives a boost to the range of Frey's Surge Magic, which can be used by pressing the Attack Magic and Support Magic buttons simultaneously.

Note: Founts of Blessing are easy to locate. Simply press the interact button after selecting the spell and you'll be taken to the map where the Fount is located. Take a dip in the Mulberry Fount and unlock the spell for free.

Best early spells for Sila's Magic

  • Fount of Blessing Magic Spells (can be earned for free by visiting a fount)
    • Soar: Climb even higher with multiple successive jumps. Combine this perk with Sila's base zip spell to get to unreachable cliffs and heights.
    • Rush: While sprinting using Magic Parkour, you can get an instant boost by pressing the input at the right moment. Wait until your legs glow red and push the Magic Parkour button.
  • Regular Spells (can be earned by spending Mana)
    • Rage Slice Lv. 1 (52 Mana): Charging the Attack Magic input unleashes a series of lethal punches onto the locked enemy. Release the input soon after to produce a heavy blow that'll send enemies flying.
    • Arc Slice Lv. 2 (38 Mana): Your sword gets a considerable range boost. Furthermore, you can use this Attack Magic mid-air to produce a shockwave that stuns enemies.
    • Blast Slice Lv. 1 (52 Mana): Throw a spear that sticks to enemies and creates a blast soon after. Since Sila's base Attack Magic spell is centered toward close combat, the Blast Slice is a must-have to counter enemies from a range if needed.
    • Bombardier (52 Mana): Use this Support Magic spell to kick enemies backward followed by an explosion when they land.
    • Amplify (144 Mana): This is not a spell that you'll use in combat, instead, it allows you to increase the magic level of your cloak when you upgrade it at the crafting table. To unlock Amplify, you'll need to buy the Drag and Drop (24 Mana) spell first. This puts the effective spend at 168 Mana.
