All Sons of the Forest Weapons (and how to get them)

Sons of the Forest is about survival on a desolate island full of cannibals and mutants. And to survive, you will need weapons. Every weapon you can get — be it a simple club or a fully-kitted shotgun — will play an invaluable role in keeping you alive. Firearms are great and give you a significant edge, but they can run out of ammunition, which is why melee weapons play an essential role as well! I have assembled a list of all weapons in the game and how to obtain them in Sons of the Forest; see it below.

Sons of the Forest - Complete Weapons List

Many different weapons are strewn across the island in Sons of the Forest. Finding them can sometimes be tricky, or you will need a particular tool, like a shovel or a rope gun, to access them. This guide will cover each weapon individually, mention its location, and how to get to it.

How to get a Pistol in Sons of the Forest

You can find the pistol in Sons of the Forest at two locations:

• On the rescue boat floating in the bay tagged with the purple marker.
• In the same bunker where you can obtain the Golden Armor.

The first one will be easier to obtain, as the second location becomes available later in the game. Be cautious if you're going for the pistol in the raft because you will encounter sharks while swimming in the bay.

How to get a Shotgun in Sons of the Forest

You'll need the shovel first to get the Shotgun in Sons of the Forest. The shotgun is buried in the casket marked by a cross in a valley near the bay with the life raft. You will find this location easily because it's the second land location with a purple marker.

How to get a Stun Gun and Stun Baton in Sons of the Forest

The Stun Gun and Stun Baton are non-lethal weapons in Sons of the Forest but are extremely useful in incapacitating enemies, setting them up for you to hit them with something bigger.

• You can find the Stun Gun in the cave (see left image). You can obtain the Rebreather you require for the trip to get the Shovel in the same cave.
•  The Stun Baton will be outside, near the cave entrance and surrounded by skulls, on the GPS location indicated in the image to the right.

How to get the Revolver in Sons of the Forest

Getting a Revolver in Sons of the Forest requires digging, so you'll need to have the Shovel to obtain this weapon. Go to the GPS location indicated in the image above and find a golf cart. You'll need to access the hatch marked with Maintenance C, open it, and climb the ladder down. Once you get down, walk up to the first room on your right, enter it, and look for the corpse of a maintenance worker; he will have a Revolver in front of him.

How to get the Crossbow in Sons of the Forest

You can find the Crossbow at the Food and Dining bunker in Sons of the Forest. You will also need to acquire the Rebreather, Rope Gun, and Shovel in that order before attempting to get the Maintenance Keycard and unlock the bunker to get the Crossbow. Once you obtain the keycard, go to the location with the green marker on the GPS locator in the image above. After you unlock the Maintenance door inside Food and Dining hatch, the Crossbow will be waiting for you in the second room, near a dead body on the right by the shelves.

How to get the Compound Bow in Sons of the Forest

You must obtain the Shovel first to get the Compound Bow in Sons of the Forest. Next, go to the location on the GPS locator in the image above to find a site surrounded by a few theodolites on tripod stands. Start digging to uncover a maintenance hatch, then open the hatch and climb the ladders down. Walk down the hallway and enter the first room to your right; the Compound Bow will be lying next to a dead body leaning on the bathtub in the toilet.

How to get the Katana in Sons of the Forest

You must have the Maintenance Keycard first to obtain the Katana in Sons of the Forest. After you get it, go to the southernmost green marker on the eastern half of the map. You will be able to obtain the Pistol in this bunker. After you enter the bunker, go down one flight of stairs and through the second open door on the right. Inside this room, you'll find the Katana on display next to a bed.

How to get the Machete in Sons of the Forest

Getting a Machete in Sons of the Forest will be a straightforward task. Travel to the area below the bay that has an emergency raft (where you find the Pistol). Go to the side opposite the cave entrance, follow the beach, and find a small ruined camp. There will be two tents, a soldier's body, some loot, and three deflated dinghies. Approach the two near the water; you will see the machete stuck into the one further from the waterline.

How to get the Chainsaw in Sons of the Forest

To find the Chainsaw in Sons of the Forest, you must obtain the Maintenance keycard first. The Chainsaw is in a facility at the central green marker on the west side of the map. This is the same location where you find the Guest keycard.

• Look for the third green marker on the GPS locator displayed in the picture above. Enter the cave beside an old, rusted golf cart.
• Go straight and then make a right down the long hallway. You will reach a waiting room with a keypad-locked door. Use the Maintenance Keycard to open it.
• Enter the gym area and go through the entire section fighting mutants.
• A large atrium area is next, with two hanging staircases. Go up the stairs and through the pool area.
• Proceed straight to the nightclub venue. At the last table on the right, pick up the Guest keycard.
• Return to the Pool room to find the door with a keypad. Use Guest Keycard to unlock it and enter the hallway with some more mutants.
• Once you enter the next room, proceed left into a small Cinema room to get the Chainsaw finally.

How to get the Modern Axe in Sons of the Forest

To get the Modern Axe in Sons of the Forest, head over to the camp marked on the GPS locator by referring to the image above. The camp is in close proximity to the crash site on the beach and the one in the mountains, so you can get this weapon early in the game. I recommend getting this weapon as early as possible because it's superior to the Tactical Axe in every way and will make the overall game progression much easier.

How to get the Putter in Sons of the Forest

You can get the Putter at the same bunker where you find the Katana in Sons of the Forest. Go to the bunker near the great lake in the eastern part of the map (a green dot on the GPS locator marks it).

• Once you enter the bunker, go through the closed door.
• After the animation plays out, proceed out the door and into a new hallway.
• Go right to the first open room and enter it.
• The Putter will be stuck into a corpse lying on a sofa in the middle of the room. You can also find the 3d printer in the same area, so use it if you need something made.

How to get the Firefighter Axe in Sons of the Forest

You can obtain the Firefighter Axe in Sons of the Forest at the same bunker you can find the Maintenance Keycard. The bunker is located at the middle green blip on the western side of the map. You will need the Shovel to dig up the entrance.

• Start digging until the Maintenance trapdoor appears.
• Go down the ladder to enter the facility.
• Once inside, go straight until you enter the room at the end of the hallway.
• You'll find the Firefighter Axe inside a wall container.

How to get the Guitar in Sons of the Forest

To get the Guitar in Sons of the Forest, you need to go to the same facility where you can obtain the Guest Keycard.

• Once you enter the cave, go down to a small room. Make a left and proceed further down the long hallway.
• You will reach a waiting room with a locked door. You need the Maintenance Keycard to open it.
• There's a gym area beyond that. There will be some cave mutants here, so deal with them.
• Proceed through the rooms until you find a large open area with two hanging staircases.
• Go to the first floor and pass through the pool area. There will be at least one Finger mutant here.
• You can find the Guitar on the table in the bar area.

How to get the Rifle in Sons of the Forest

To get a Rifle in Sons of the Forest, visit the Cultist Cave entrance by the great lake on the eastern part of the map. A huge rock will be overarching the entrance, so you can't miss it. Travel to the location I marked on the GPS coordinates in the image above, and be sure to take a Rebreather with you.

• Once you get into the cave, go forward and down the slope. Some bats will fly into your face.
• You will then find yourself in the second cave portion. Keep going right, fighting cave mutants on the way.
• You will reach the first junction. There will be two golden lights in the distance; go toward the one on the right.
• Follow the tunnel down, using the patches of golden ore as a reference. There will be a section where the tunnel is submerged. Dive into the water.
• Using the Rebreather, swim through the submerged section until you get out of the water and into the third tunnel.
• Keep going forward until you come to a third junction. You will meet at least one finger mutant along the way. At the second junction, again represented by two golden lights, go right.
• There will be a short tunnel section where you will see a small chair and a single light source on the right wall. Keep going forward and kill three to four mutant babies along the way.
• You will reach the end of the tunnel with two dead mercenaries. The one on the right is holding the Rifle in his hands. Pick it up.
• Return to the surface back the way you came.

How to get the Slingshot in Sons of the Forest

You can get the Slingshot in Sons of the Forest by visiting the same cave where you can find the Shovel. Look for an area marked by the green dot on the GPS locator, as shown in the image above. There will be three corpses stuck on stakes near the cave entrance. Approach the middle corpse and press E to get the Slingshot from it.

How to get the Cross in Sons of the Forest

You can get the Cross in Sons of the Forest at two separate locations:

• The Rope Gun cave
• In the Arm Door bunker

You will encounter the cave with the Rope Gun much earlier in the game. While inside, instead of going to the left and exploring the rest of the cave, find the Cross on the ground on the opposite side by a corpse. It will not be handy to you until the very end of the game because while the cannibals react to the Cross if you point it at them, it doesn't physically harm them; it only works against the demons you encounter in the last Magma cave.

If you missed the first opportunity to obtain the Cross, you can find it again in the Arm door bunker, just before the section where you'll need to use it. The Cross is on the bed located in front of a giant screen showing red flowers.
