Genshin Impact's development team tirelessly continues to expand Teyvat with new areas, characters, and exciting events and stories—one update at a time. There's a lot to be excited about in the upcoming Version 3.8 update, which is expected to include the yearly summer area.
Despite the crackdown on leaks, the community has still been able to share content mined from the beta and private servers. But remember: take leaks with a grain of salt as they have not been confirmed by HoYoverse, and do not regard them as official information.
A huge thank you to @HoYoverseJapan, @HutaoLover77, @Genshin_Intel, and the Genshin Impact community for providing information.
Genshin Impact Version 3.8 release date
Below is a roadmap for future Versions based on HoYoverse's six-week update interval. These are subject to changes and delays without prior notice:
- Version 3.7 - May 24, 2023, to July 5, 2023
- Version 3.8 - July 6, 2023, to August 17, 2023
- Version 4.0 - August 18, 2023, to September 29, 2023
We skipped Version 3.9 as Genshin Impact has historically jumped to the next big region update after the 0.8 patch.
Genshin Impact Version 3.8 leaks – Penumbra & more
Banner rotation
Version 3.8 is not expected to welcome any new characters, as no drip marketing announcements were announced before the prior update dropped. As a result, leaker @HoyoverseJapan claims that Version 3.8 will have the following banner lineups:
First Phase
Second Phase
Five-star | Four-star |
---|---|
Sangonomiya Kokomi | Thoma |
Wanderer | Yanfei |
Faruzan |

New Hangout
According to @Genshin_Intel, Kaeya may receive his long-awaited Hangout event in Version 3.8. While Hangouts are reserved for four-stars, starter characters Kaeya, Amber, and Lisa have dedicated Story Quests, so they were never given the opportunity of a one-to-one event prior.
Interestingly, leakers revealed that placeholder characters have been used to indicate that a playable character and unique NPC may appear during the Hangout. Based on a translated leak, the playable character may possibly be Lyney, a character who first appeared in the Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview. I'm excited to see him appear in the Hangout if the leaks are to be believed, as he's rumored to be connected to Arlecchino due to being raised in the House of the Hearth.
New Outfits
Leakers allege that new skins for Klee and Kaeya may drop in Version 3.8. Both skins are rumored to be four-stars and are thematically aligned with the upcoming leaked area (see next section) but information on how to obtain them has yet to be revealed. Historically, players can get four-star character skins for free during the event period and purchase from the shop afterward, while five-star character skins are typically only sold for Genesis Crystals. Since Klee is a five-star character, fans of her leaked witchy Outfit may benefit from saving up Crystals before the update.
New area
A new summer area called Penumbra has been leaked to release in place of the Golden Apple Archipelago, so players may be able to look forward to a new adventure outside of the summer islands. Based on leaked images and information, Penumbra seems to be set throughout the entirety of the Sumeru rainforest and is thematically inspired by a wandering circus.
Based on a map by leaker @HutaoLover77, Penumbra seems to be a massive area that encompasses multiple key points, similar to last year's rendition of the Golden Apple Archipelago. Colorful tracks line the landscape, which leakers claim to be a rollercoaster route. However, leaked exploration videos show that the tracks are quite narrow in the beta, so it's unclear how the rollercoaster mechanic will play out if it were to be believed.
TCG Updates
Genius Invokation fans will be happy to know that some changes to the game have been leaked to come in 3.8. According to a tweet originally posted by @Maltose371027 and translated by Reddit user ukrisreng, the following cards may receive the following changes in the upcoming update:
Card | Update |
---|---|
Yoimiya | Burst dice cost decreased from four to three. |
Beidou | Burst Dice Cost decreased from four to three. Skill Damage increased from two to three. |
Xiangling | Burst Damage increased from dealing two to three damage (plus Pyronado). |
Razor | Burst Energy cost decreased from three to two. Burst Damage decreased from five to three. |
Eula | Increase in damage from using Skill with Grimheart from four to five. Lightfall Sword default stacks increase from two to three. |
Noelle talent card | Effect changed so that Normal Attack will heal if shield is still up. |
Additionally, @Genshin_Intel stated that Candace, Kazuha, and Yanfei may finally be added to the TCG lineup.
Version 3.8 Abyss Enemy Lineup & Blessings
The 12th floor of the Abyss has been a massive challenge for the past few updates, and Version 3.8 doesn't seem like it's going to be any easier. Based on a leak reposted by @HutaoLover77, the enemy lineup may possibly include an array of shielded enemies and may boost the team's Physical Damage bonus. This aligns with leaks indicating a possible Eula rerun in the first half of the update.
New events
Leakers claim the following events will occur in Version 3.8:
- An Oceanid-themed event in a temporary map called the Veluriyan Mirage (may or may not be set in Penumbra), which will allegedly offer a free Layla.
- An event that involves finding wildlife via their point of view.
- A combat event called the Perilous Prospect.
- A rerun of Adventurer's Trials, which was first released toward the end of 2022.
