How to farm all Character Ascension Materials in Genshin Impact

Ascending characters in Genshin Impact is essentially increasing their current max level. Players must max out their current level to acquire Ascension Materials. Once players get to Adventurer Rank 15, they are able to start ascending characters.

With the exception of the Traveler who requires the Brilliant Diamonds materials set, different characters require different Ascension Materials depending on their element. These materials include Elemental Gems, Enemy Drop Materials, and Local Specialty Materials.

Elemental Gems

Gems with a higher rarity—with the exception of Brilliant Diamonds—can be combined with lower rarity materials of the same element by crafting them via Alchemy. Players must increase their Adventure Rank to the required level to unlock the ability to craft some materials. Fragments require Adventure Rank 25, Chunks require Adventure Rank 35, and Gemstones require Adventure Rank 45.

To get all four Brilliant Diamond rarities, just get to a specific Adventure Rank, then go to the Adventurer's Guild in Mondstadt or Liyue and claim the reward.

• Agnidus Agate (Pyro)
  • Agnidus Agate Sliver
  • Agnidus Agate Fragment
  • Agnidus Agate Chunk
  • Agnidus Agate Gemstone

Players can obtain all four rarities of Agnidus Agate by defeating the Boss Pyro Regisvine on all World Levels, and they can buy it from shops, defeating Bosses, and Converting. 

• Vajrada Amethyst (Electro)
  • Vajrada Amethyst Sliver
  • Vajrada Amethyst Fragment
  • Vajrada Amethyst Chunk
  • Vajrada Amethyst Gemstone

Players can obtain all four rarities of Vajrada Amethyst by defeating the Electro Hypostasis Boss on all World Levels and completing Trounce Domains, Alchemy, and Converting.

• Vayuda Turquoise (Anemo)
  • Vayuda Turquoise Sliver
  • Vayuda Turquoise Fragment
  • Vayuda Turquoise Chunk
  • Vayuda Turquoise Gemstone

Players can obtain all four rarities of Vayuda Turquoise by defeating the Anemo Hypostasis Boss on all World Levels and completing Trounce Domains, Alchemy, and Converting.

• Shivada Jade (Cryo)
  • Shivada Jade Sliver
  • Shivada Jade Fragment
  • Shivada Jade Chunk
  • Shivada Jade Gemstone

Players can obtain all four rarities of Shivada Jade by defeating the Boss Cryo Regisvine on all World Levels, and they can buy it from shops, defeating Bosses, and Converting. 

• Prithiva Topaz (Geo)
  • Prithiva Topaz Sliver
  • Prithiva Topaz Fragment
  • Prithiva Topaz Chunk
  • Prithiva Topaz Gemstone

Players can obtain all four rarities of Prithiva Topaz by defeating the Boss Geo Hypostasis on all World Levels, and they can buy it from shops, defeating Bosses, and Converting. 

Local Specialties

Local Specialties are extremely helpful in regards to ascending characters, weapons, and crafting potions. Some materials can only be found in the wild. Characters from Mondstadt will require materials found there, and characters from Liyue will require materials found in Liyue. Local Specialties respawn every two days after looting them based on the time spent harvesting them, not the server reset time. Players should be sure to mark the locations on their maps once found to remember where to go!

• Crystal Marrow
  • Explore the Inazuma region, as they are only found in the wild. The Crystal Marrow can be found all over these Islands.
• Calla Lily
  • While the plant can grow just about anywhere near water in Mondstadt, the best place to farm them is at the small pond in Springvale, just south of the city of Mondstadt itself.
• Cecilia
  • Explore the region of Mondstadt. Cecilia can be found on Snarsnatch Cliff. It can also be purchased from Flora, an NPC who owns the Floral Whisper in Mondstadt.
• Cor Lapis
  • Explore the region of Liyue. Cor Lapis can be found under cliffs all over the Liyue region. It is a mineral, though, so players must mine it.
• Dandelion Seed
  • Explore the region of Mondstadt. Dandelion Seeds can be picked out in wilds. However, there is a group southwest of the Dawn Winery and north of Sal Terrae where players can find a fair few grouped together.
• Glaze Lily
  • Explore the region of Liyue. Glaze Lily can only be located in Qingce Village, Liyue Harbor, or Yujing Terrace. Glaze Lily can also be purchased from Ms. Bai, an NPC who lives in Qingce Village.
• Jueyun Chili
  • Explore the region of Liyue. Jueyun Chili can only be found in Liyue, mainly in Qingce Village and the surrounding Qingyun Peak. It can also be purchased at the Wanmin Restaurant at Liyue Habor. Here you can speak to an NPC called Chef Mao.
• Noctilucous Jade
  • Explore the region of Liyue. Noctilucous Jade can only be found in caves, and mainly in Mingyun Village. It is a mineral, so players will have to mine it. It can also be purchased by speaking to an NPC called Shitou at Jade Mystery, a shop in Liyue Harbor. 
• Philanemo Mushroom
  • Explore the region of Mondstadt. It can be collected under the eaves of houses in Springvale and Mondstadt, and it can also be purchased from Chloris, a wandering Botanist in the area of Windrise. She travels between the road from Mondstadt to the Thousand Winds Temple and can only be located on the road between the hours of 6am to 7pm.
• Qingxin
  • Explore the region of Liyue. Qingxin can be found in numerous amounts in Wuwang Hill and around Qingyun Peak, mainly in Jueyun Karst and Huaguang Stone Forest. It can also be purchased at Bubu Pharmacy in Liyue Harbor by speaking to the NPC Herbalist Guild.
• Sea Ganoderma
  • Explore the Inazuma region. Since the Golden Apple Archipelago has ended, they have moved to the Inazuma Islands.
• Silk Flower
  • Explore the region of Liyue. Silk Flower can be located in Yujing Terrace in Liyue Harbor and outside the Wangshu Inn. It can also be purchased from the boss of the Wangshu Inn.
• Small Lamp Grass
  • Explore the region of Mondstadt. It can be found in quite a number in Whispering Woods and Wolvendom. Explore these areas at night time. Small Lamp Grass eminates a light at night. It can also be purchased from Flora, an NPC who owns the Floral Whisper in Mondstadt.
• Starconch
  • Explore the region of Liyue. Starconch can be found on beaches and coastlines of nearby Liyue islands. This makes the Yaoguang Shoals, Guyun Stone Forest, and the east coast of the Guili Plains the best places to farm these materials.
• Valberry
  • Explore the region of Mondstadt. Valberry can only be found in the Stormbearer Mountains and Stormbearer Point. It cannot be located anywhere else in the wild. It can also be purchased from Chloris, a wandering Botanist in the area of Windrise. She travels between the road from Mondstadt to the Thousand Winds Temple. She can only be located on the road between the hours of 6am to 7pm.
• Violetgrass
  • Explore the region of Liyue. Violetgrass can be located all over the region, though it appears in vast numbers around Mingyun Village, Wuwang Hill, and in between Lingju Pass and Dunyu Ruins. It can also be purchased at Bubu Pharmacy in Liyue Harbor by speaking to the NPC Herbalist Guild.
• Windwheel Aster
  • Explore the region of Mondstadt. Windwheel Aster can only be found next to the Statue of Seven in Windrise and Stormterror's Lair. It cannot be located anywhere else in the wild. It can also be purchased from Flora, an NPC who owns the Floral Whisper in Mondstadt.
• Wolfhook
  • Explore the region of Mondstadt. Wolfhook can only be found in Wolvendom and cannot be located anywhere else in the wild. It can also be purchased from Chloris, a wandering Botanist in the area of Windrise. She travels between the road from Mondstadt to the Thousand Winds Temple and can only be located on the road between the hours of 6am to 7pm.
• Sakura Bloom
  • To find Sakura Bloom, players must destroy the pink and purple Electro clusters that form in the Inazuma region with an Electro attack. If you use any other attack, nothing will happen to the cluster.
• Naku Weed
  • Explore the three Islands of the Inazuma region, as they are only found in the wild there.
• Onikabuto
  • Onikabuto is a regional specialty found only in Inazuma. Along with being found in the wild, four Onikabuto can be obtained by speaking to Shouta in Inazuma City.
• Dendrobium
  • Dendrobium is a regional specialty found only in Inazuma, specifically on the Yashiori and Kannazuka Islands. This item can only be found in the wild.
• Amakumo Fruit
  • The main area to get Amakumo Fruit at is Amakumo Peak, but a heavy Electro storm is engulfing the area, so being anywhere near that central area will continuously drain the player's HP.
• Sango Pearl
  • Sango Pearls are found among seashells and corals of Watatsumi Island. Many can notably be found in the reefs under the Sangonomiya Shrine, and a few are also present in Suigetsu Pool and near the Heart of Watatsumi.

Enemy Drop Materials

Normal Boss enemies will drop rewards for defeating them, along with certain Character Ascension Materials, depending on the level and type of the boss.

• Hurricane Seed
  • To obtain a Hurricane Seed, players must kill the Boss Anemo Hypostasis on any World Level.
• Lightning Prism
  • To obtain a Lightning Prism, players must kill the Boss Electro Hypostasis on any World Level. 
• Basalt Pillar
  • To obtain a Basalt Pillar, players must kill the Boss Geo Hypostasis on any World Level.
• Hoarfrost Core
  • To obtain an Hoarfrost Core, players must kill the Boss Cyro Regisvines on any World Level. 
• Everflame Seed
  • To obtain an Everflame Seed, players must kill the Boss Pyro Regisvines on any World Level.
• Cleansing Heart
  • To obtain a Cleansing Heart, players must kill the Boss Oceanid—otherwise known as Rhodeia of Loch—on any World Level. 
• Juvenile Jade
  • To obtain a Juvenile Jade, players must kill the Boss Primo Geovishap on World Level 1. 
• Crystalline Bloom
  • To obtain a Crystalline Bloom, players must kill the Boss Cryo Hypostasis on any World Level. 
• Marionette Core
  • To obtain a Marionette Core, players must kill the Boss Maguu Kenki on any World Level.
• Perpetual Heart
  • To obtain a Perpetual Heart, players must kill Perpetual Mechanical Arrays in the Inazuma region on any World Level.
• Smoldering Pearl
  • To obtain a Smoldering Pearl, players must kill the Boss Pyro Hypostasis in the Inazuma region on any World Level.
• Dew of Repudiation
  • To obtain a Dew of Repudiation, players must kill the Boss Hydro Hypostasis in the Inazuma region on any World Level.
• Storm Beads
  • To obtain a Storm Beads, players must kill the Boss Thunder Manifestation in the Inazuma region on any World Level.
